Arctic MTB #6 - 16th August 2016 - The series final

Tuesday the 16th August 2016  marked the final round of the Arctic MTB Kincaid Race Series for 2016.  The six race series always passes so quickly but this year, once again the series has been a blast to compete in with a great variety of courses and weather.

From the team point of view we've had great participation in the events both racing and assisting with course setup and teardown.

Thanks again to Arctic MTB for putting together a great series, see you all at the Trifecta then following on from that #Crossiscoming with Arctic cross

Alaska Endurance Association Soggy Bottom - 6th August 2016

After the epic rain preceding the Soggy Bottom all the racers were preparing for potentially horrendous conditions on the course. Fortunately the course was mostly just moist with the occasional section of wet. Even a lot of the wet cleared up for many riders return trip back towards Devils pass.

Revolution racing had two riders completing solo for the 100mile event, 2 riders on teams (both took leg 2) and two riders running the SBBS (Soggy Bottom Bacon Station)

Arctic MTB #5 -4th August 2016 - The water edition

Wow what a wet one!  Congratulations to the 6 team members who were out racing. The course was a little climbing, a little descending with a large side of  mud, water and wet roots.

Arctic MTB XC#4 - 21st July 2016 - The gorge trail edition

Nine team members were out racing in the only slightly smokey air this week.
The course was a tough one with around 800ft of climbing per 6mile lap.  Although most of the climbing wasn't steep it did wear out the legs.  2/3 of the way around the course we took a primitive single track trail that linked up with the gorge trail.  This added a little technical riding into the course and was a great place to either maintain some good pace or lose time against your rivals, if you hadn't already lost time in the climbs ;-)
Thanks again to Arctic MTB for another fantastic course.

How to upload a course

Have you ever wondered how to upload a course into you Garmin cycling computer? Or perhaps you've seen a track on Strava that you would like to try out. Watch this video on how to export a course. Thanks to the Arctic Bike Club Mountain Racing Division for providing us with the download. See you all Thursday. :)

Arctic MTB #3 - Hillside - 30th June 2016

The weather had been sunny all day, great I thought another sunny race. At around 17:00 the clouds started building and the humidity went up, well at least for Anchorage it felt humid, there was also a light shower of rain when I left my house for the race. Fortunately the rain mostly held off for the racing which started at 19:00.

The course was a mix of STA buffed out singletrack, older singletrack (Llama), social singletrack  and ski trail. The course had around 500ft of climbing per lap, however roughly 400ft of that was completed in the first 2 miles, which definitely served as a warm up.
It could also be described like this, climb to the top of the Hillside STA trails will this climb ever end! Descend half way back down a fun (technical) trail, climb again on a loose and rooty trail to the top of the ski area, descend to start area on a mix of singletrack and ski trails then suffer as you climb (again) through double bubble ski loop.

Revolution racing had a great turnout with 12 members racing and one as support.

There are also some really good photos on facebook.

Kenai 250 race report

The weekend of 24th, 25th and 26th June Oscar decided it would be a great idea to ride the Kenai 250, this is a race through most of the singletrack on the Kenai Peninsula, from the Kenai 250 website
"The Kenai 250 is a challenging route, for experienced backcountry endurance riders, with over 200 miles of singletrack that traverses some of the most beautiful landscape the Kenai Peninsula in Alaska has to offer.  The ride includes the historic Resurrection Pass , Russian Lakes Trail, Lost Lake Trail, Johnson Pass and so much more!

This will be a 100% self-supported event.  Riders will be required to carry all gear required  to complete the loop.  The route goes past several small populated areas where re-supply is possible.  No outside help, company, ghost riders, pre-arrangements, reservations, calls to restaurants to pre-order food or wait for rider, etc.  Cellphones allowed for safety and selfies only."

Results can be found here but really you should read about Oscar's experience here on his blog.
